  • Reception and year six height and weight measuring

    Tue 07 Nov 2023

Height and weight checks for children in Reception and Year 6 Every year, over 17,000 schools take part in the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP). Your school is one of these, and as part of that, your child will have their height and weight checked in this year’s programme. In conjunction with over one million other children’s measurements, your child’s measurements will then be used to gather information about children’s growth and weight patterns across the country, and this will help inform the development of actions, services and programmes to benefit children in Lincolnshire and countrywide.

Withdrawing your child from the National Child Measurement Programme If you are happy for your child to be measured, you do not need to do anything. If you do not want your child’s height and weight to be measured, or your child has a medical condition that affects their height or weight please let us know by 8 th December 2023 by calling our Single Point of Access (SPA) on 01522 843000 or email BS_HealthServices@lincolnshire.gov.uk We do not need consent to measure your child’s height and weight. Children will not be made to take part on the day if they do not want to.

  • Wrap around care survey for September 2024

    Thu 05 Oct 2023

The governors are aware that the wrap around care offered by external providers in the Walcott area may have reached capacity and may limit options parents have in the future. We are therefore investigating the viability of restarting our own extended provision from September 2024.

Walcott was one of the first schools in Lincolnshire to have a breakfast club and this ran for many years until Manor Barn opened, so this is something we have previous experience of.

The first step is to assess need.

If this is a service you would require, please complete the short survey below to help us with our planning. It is particularly important that any prospective parents complete the survey. If you know of a family that would be wanting a place in September 2024, please make them aware. This post will be available in the latest news section of the website.

  • Sickness absence periods

    Mon 23 Jan 2023
It would seem that we have a winter bug going round the school. Whilst we are trying to improve attendance, when a child has either been sick or had diarrhea they should not return to school until 48 hours after the last instance on illness This does mean that some children end up being off school a bit longer, but it helps reduce the spread to the wider school and overall improves attendance.

Please help us to reduce spread and improve attendance by sticking to these rules from the Health Protection Agency.

    Regards

    A Sewell
  • New School Administrator

    Sun 22 Jan 2023

Following interviews last week, I am pleased to announce that Mrs Steer will be taking on the role. This will be her primary role in school from half term although she will do some teaching assistant activities in addition.

Although this role commences officially from next term Mrs Steer will be in the office most mornings until around 9.30am from this week and she will be the person following up absences. If your child is absent please contact her using her school email address: laura.steer@walcott.lincs.sch.uk. We will also be introducing a general 'enquiries@walcott.lincs.sch.uk' email address that will automatically go to myself (Mr Sewell) and Mrs Steer at the same time.

I am aware that it is a long time since we have had consistency in the office due to ongoing staff absences and know this has been frustrating; it is our aim to ensure that day to day queries can be dealt with face to face in a timely fashion.

The Walcott administrator position is part time. so there will remain times of the day when the phone will still divert to Mrs Mary King's, I will let you know Mrs Steer's normal timetabled office times before next term.

    News update

    Dear Parents
We held interviews for a new class teacher on Friday and I am delighted to inform you that we have appointed Miss Alex Warner to join the team. Miss Warner is currently working at Monks Abbey Primary School where she has completed her initial teacher training. I am sure you will join me in offering her a warm welcome to the school.

    •    Miss Jones has notified me that she wishes to return part following maternity leave in October.
    •    Miss Parkin has become a full-time permanent member of staff.
The class structure at Walcott in September will be as follows:
    Class 1 Mrs Miller
    Class 2 Miss Warner
    Class 3 Miss Parkin
    Class 4 Mr Churchward

Mrs Beckingham and Mrs Osborne will move to the Mrs Mary King’s site.

Miss Jones will work in conjunction with other class teachers to teach a small focused group of children three days a week. This is a significant increase in staffing for Walcott and is part of our commitment to supporting children with special educational needs. Given that the number of children on roll will have risen to ninety by September I believe this will be a very strong staffing arrangement. There will be a number of transition sessions before the end of term that will allow children to meet their new teachers.

    SENDCO
Mrs Skinner has been taken ill, and from what I can ascertain will not be back in school for a few weeks. Please do not try and contact her in the meantime, she won’t be accessing her emails. I am sure you will join with me in wishing her a speedy recovery, I know that she will want to be back in school as soon as possible.

    Aylmerton Residential Briefing
There will be a meeting for parents to explain the itinerary and practical arrangements for the forthcoming residential trip to Norfolk on Wednesday 22nd June at 3.15pm in Class Four. The kit list of essential items has been` sent with children today and there will be a medical form sent home later this week that needs to be completed and returned by the 22nd June.

    Leaver’s Assembly
Leavers Assembly will take place in St Oswalds Church on Thursday 21st July at 2.15pm

    Sports Day
Sports Day is 24th June 1.00pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please bring your own fold up chairs or blankets. Sports day events will be followed immediately by the Friends of Walcott Primary School summer fair.

  • Red Nose Day

    Wed 09 Mar 2022

Red Nose Day is Friday the 18th March. We have decided this will be a non uniform / fancy dress day. Children can chose to come to school in uniform, non uniform or fancy dress. We know that not all children enjoy fancy dress, so we are giving them lots of options. We suggest a donation of £1 per child. We will however be splitting proceeds between Red Nose Day and the Disasters Emergency Committee Charity to support the current crisis in Europe. I believe that the Red Nose Day charity is also refocusing its appeal to reflect the situation too. So if you feel you want to donate a bit more than usual please do but send any larger donations in an envelope marked Red Nose Day.

Red noses go on sale from Monday 14th March and cost £1.50 There are enough for one per child.

  • World Book Day

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

It’s World Book Day on Thursday the 3rd March. This year we are asking children to take part in a cereal box challenge: take an empty cereal box, make a model or scene linked to a favourite book…or turn the box into an object from the book…. Or make the book into the book with your own cover design. Include the book title in the project and for older children a handwritten sentence or paragraph from the book would be ideal.

We did this a few years ago with shoe boxes and the results were amazing. There will be some small prizes for best project per class. We will make displays so that parents can see all the entries.

So the box could for example become a spell book, suitcase, model of Wonka’s chocolate factory, a base for a model, cut open to make a scene like those below. Be as creative as you want…

We are doing the same project at both schools and class teachers will be sending further information about the re launch of reading challenges..
